Health and Wellness Coaching

Are you living a life where you feel like you want more when it comes to your well being and health?

Do you want to make some changes to the way you are living, but have trouble getting started or keeping it going?

Do you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward?

Do you feel like life is too busy or out of control leaving you with little to no time to take care of yourself?

Do you like the sound of having a coach serving as a creative and thoughtful partner along for the journey?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you certainly are not alone. With so many work and home responsibilities competing for our time and attention it seems impossible to figure out how to fit in taking care of yourself. Health & Wellness Coaches help busy parents, working professionals, and new retirees to put their wellness and self care a priority on their ‘to do’ list.

A Health and Wellness Coach is not going to tell you what is best for you, what to do, or what to eat. Instead we help clients to discover their own path to better well-being. This approach leads to sustainable and lasting change.

There are many factors that can influence your personal well being. Wellness means different things to different people, and given that many areas of our life and well being are intrinsically intertwined, your coaching journey may include any combination of the following:

  • Diet and Nutrition,

  • Activity and Exercise,

  • Stress Management,

  • Quiet time,

  • Mindset,

  • Mindfulness,

  • Sleep quality,

  • Relationships,

  • Work life satisfaction,

  • Income and money management,

  • Attitude and outlook,

  • Sifting through chaos and clutter,

  • Spirituality,

  • Time management, etc.

The coaching process ultimately leads to increased personal responsibility for your health and well-being by helping with:

  • Self motivation,

  • Self-confidence,

  • The ability to self-discover,

  • Self-efficacy.

  • Feeling in control,

  • A sense of accomplishment, and

  • Having strategies to fall back on to help overcome future challenges.

Julie Browning, Certified Health and Wellness Coach
through WellCoaches School of Coaching.

I am a wife, mom, friend, athlete, and the owner of Breakaway Coaching: a business that provides Health & Wellness Coaching as well as coaching services and classes for endurance athletes. Since 2001 I have been helping runners, cyclists and triathletes reach their athletic goals. Over the years my approach has evolved into a more holistic approach to fitness and health that includes clean eating, mindset, mindfulness, rest and recovery. It seemed a natural step for me to pursue a Health and Wellness Coaching Certification through Well Coaches. I love that wellness means to different things to different people and I thoroughly enjoy partnering with them to explore ways to achieve their individual health and wellness goals.

What does wellness mean to me?
Quality sleep, quiet reflective time, solid relationships, a strong and functional body, and clean eating. When these pieces are in place it allows me to have the creativity, energy and ability to be a present and engaging wife and mom, and active mountain biker.

Should we work together? Let's find out. Shoot me an email and let's find a time to chat to see if we are a 'good fit' for each other. I offer a free 30 minute session so we can get to know each other better before committing.

There are 4 ways you can work with me: Individual Coaching, Group Coaching, Wellness Club or in a Corporate setting.

Once you decide you're ready to move forward:

  • Read my 'Welcome Packet'. Sign the agreement and return it to me.

  • Complete a character strength assessment.

  • Fill out a well-being assessment.

  • Schedule your first coaching session. This session can be in-person or over the phone. The first session lasts 60-90 minutes.

  • Subsequent Ongoing Coaching Sessions are 30-45 minutes and can be held each week, once every 2 weeks or once a month.

In a group setting we select a focus topic for each session. You will get coached towards your personal goals within that topic. Group coaching offers the following:

  • Cost-effective way to be health coached

  • Benefit of group support and learning from other members’ experiences

  • Feeling of a sense of belonging and community

  • Increased accountability and responsibility to follow through

  • Creative brainstorming of possibilities

  • Willingness to try something new in a supportive “let’s try this together” attitude of the group.

Connect with me if you are interested in joining a group or forming your own group.

Do you seek a sense of belonging in a safe, nurturing, inspiring and supportive group?  Are you feeling like your connections are uninspiring, underwhelming and unsatisfying? Are you ready to put in the work and make lifestyle changes to help improve your health and well-being? Consider joining a Breakaway Wellness Club.

Breakaway Wellness Clubs were created for a number of reasons:

  • We are social animals and tend to thrive when we have a strong sense of community. However, today there seems to be is less opportunity to socially connect in meaningful ways: to be heard, to feel supported, to be held accountable, etc.

  • There is a rising need for wellness coaching to help people get started on their wellness journey. With so many health and wellness guidelines, services, and products available, people feel overwhelmed: it has created an inertia making it increasingly hard to create, initiate and sustain our own wellness paths.

  • It provides an opportunity for a health and wellness coach to positively impact and reach more people at one time.

What is a Wellness Club?
Think of it as a book club that gets together once a month, but instead of focusing on reading a book, it’s focusing on our Wellness. To get the most out of the club you should be ready to make some lifestyle changes towards improving your well being. You might not know how yet. That’s OK.  The club is here to help you get ‘un-stuck’ and moving forward.

The purpose of the club is to bring together a group of people who are ready to:

  • Work on their wellness

  • Have a sense of belonging and connect with others in a meaningful way

  • Be a part of a group that is non-judgmental and ready to listen

  • Inspire and support each other

  • Be held accountable

  • Celebrate and honor each other

How it works?
We meet once a month. A certified Health and Wellness coach serves as the club’s facilitator. Like a book club, there will be ‘work’ to do during the weeks we don’t meet. This work will be any combination of reflecting, writing, reading, strategizing or putting something into action. This ‘work’ should be fun, rewarding and something to look forward to. Initially we’ll use the time to discover our values, strengths, what motivates us and to craft a personal wellness vision. Once this is in place, each month will focus on a different wellness topic (exercise, quiet time, gratitude, nutrition, sleep hygiene, etc.). You’ll receive weekly emails from the Club’s facilitator with a mix of something to read, something to listen to or watch with ideas for moving forward with that month’s particular wellness topic.

I hope you find the combination of education, reflections, weekly goals and experiments, with small group support a powerful way to kickstart your well being journey.

  • Spending more on healthcare does not lead to better health and wellness.

  • reports that 75% of healthcare costs stem from poor lifestyle habit.

  • Changing lifestyle habits helps reduce healthcare costs.

  • Health and wellness coaching is the key to making lasting changes to lifestyle habits

There isn’t a one size fits all solution to well-being because wellness is unique to each individual. Providing employees with gym memberships, incentives to workout or health risk assessments will not give them the tools they need to make significant behavioral changes.  They need someone to help: Health Coaches. Health coaches engage with employees to meet them where they are. The coaching process has been proven to be effective in helping people be successful in adopting healthy behavior changes.

Health and Wellness Coaching addresses all domains of wellness (stress management, work-life balance, exercise, nutrition, relationships, etc). It is effective in empowering people to take responsibility for their own health and wellness. Employee health and wellness helps the health of the business. Corporate Health Coaching helps to:

  • Improve employee morale

  • Increase retention

  • Impact productivity and creativity

  • Reduce absenteeism

  • To create an overall ‘happier’ and ‘healthier’ work environment

Health and Wellness Coaching programs can include:

  • Brown bag lunch Workshops/Seminars

  • Digital Newsletters

  • 1-on-1 Coaching (on-site or over the telephone)

  • Group coaching
